📍Bidjigal Country, Georges River, Botany Bay, NSW, Australia
1750 – 1788“I am a Bidjigal man, born on the country of the woods people about the year the newcomers would later count as 1750 — my country running from Botany Bay along the Cooks and Georges rivers, west to the salt-pan creeks. I grew under these trees, on this water, in the law and the seasons my old people had kept for longer than memory. We wanted for nothing the land did not give. Then the ships came, and the smallpox, and the fences, and took what was never theirs. This was my home before it had any of their names. I would not let them have it quietly.”
