📍Kowloon, Hong Kong, China
1964 – 1972“From the age of four I grew up in Hong Kong, where my father had gone into business — a swirl of neon, harbour ferries, markets and noise utterly unlike anywhere in Australia. For a small boy it was intoxicating: a city of a million sensations that taught me the world was vast and strange and thrilling. I went to school on the Kowloon side, swam, broke my arm, discovered I could perform. When we finally returned to Sydney I carried Hong Kong with me — a restlessness, an appetite for the exotic, a sense that life was meant to be lived loud and large.”
